Alaska Absinthe Update

Alaska Absinthe Update -

Markus Keller in AK | Scott Sullivan photo

This season has been a great snow year by all accounts. Yet no matter how amazing things are in the lower 48, it never stops the annual April migration of our sport’s elite to the proving grounds of Alaska.

Knowing that the Absinthe Crew was based out of Haines, AK, FSM contributor Adryan Roane Ritter got Markus Keller on the horn to get the latest from the Great White North.

FSM: Hey Markus. So you’re in Haines, AK filming with Absinthe right now… did you go out today?
Markus Keller: Almost… It turned from bluebird into greybird when we arrived at the Heli Base this morning.

“I was chillin’ at the Northstar-At-Tahoe village and someone handed me this flier for a Big Ollie competition hosted by Butterbox Snowboard Shop and sponsored by Nike and PBR (the beer). I thought watching people ollie on snowboards would be kind of lame, right? I rolled over to check it out and saw some people I knew so decided to whip out my really sexy and big camera and film the Ollie Project. So, here is the video kid…hope you like,” Dustin Vance.

1st Robbie Sell – Winning ollie height: 4 feet and 7.5 inches
2nd Nick Visconti
3rd Jason Kell

US Open Slope Semis

Mason Aguirre and Shaun White throw out some East Coast love.

The final day of the US Open slopestyle competition is underway. While the rain and clouds of yesterday’s qualifying round have dispersed, in their wake is a mean, gusty and bone-chilling wind. In addition an arctic temperature drop followed yesterday’s warm rains appropriately icing over the US Open slopestyle course at Stratton. Alas, the boys at SPT were able to get the groomers to work to salvage a course on the brink of freezing beyond rideabiliy. In the end some familiar names and some surprises turned up in the finals.

Grand Prix Finals: Day 2

Grand Prix Finals: Day 2 -

Spencer Link
It was another long day for riders at the Grand Prix finals at Killington, VT this weekend. Thanks to Saturday night’s fog, the pipe finals were stacked on top of the slopestyle event on Sunday. To make up for the time crunch, qualifiers for slopestyle became finals and the pipe ran immediately after. But since there were some 50 guys and 20 girls riding the park, and the Grand Prix may have been the slowest running event, ever, the riders didn’t even take to the pipe to practice until around four. And it wasn’t until almost seven that Kelly Clark and Louie Vito were awarded pipe titles and the overall Grand Prix series titles, which came with a new Chevy Avalanche.
